WHY ATTEND?

Click on the video below to learn why you'll want to join us!

The intention behind Compassion-in-Action is to connect like-minded people with each other and to give you the tools and resources you need to reflect your deepest values in your daily behavior so that we can create the compassionate world we all envision — for all animals, both human and non-human.

Through lectures, Q&A sessions, and group work, we will address such topics as:

  • The Most Powerful Ways to Advocate for Animals
  • 10 Habits of Highly Effective Advocates
  • Turn Your Passion into a Profession (or Use Your Passion in Existing Profession)
  • How to Practice Self-Compassion
  • How to Apply the Principles of Zero Waste to Your Life

By the end of this weekend together, not only will you have connected with dozens of incredible like-minded people and connected with your deepest, most authentic compassion, you will also have tools for living purposefully, boldly, passionately, and compassionately — in a way that is both effective and joyful.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where will the event be held?

Our conference is at the beautiful Lake Merritt Sailboat House in Oakland — right on the lake. (We plan to offer the option for participants to rent a paddle boat or kayak to enjoy during our lunch breaks!)

What time is the event?

We will be spending Saturday together from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday together from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those signing up for Platinum will also join us on Friday night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Can you recommend accommodations in Oakland?

The Waterfront Hotel at Jack London Square is offering a 15% discount to attendees (link for room booking in your confirmation email once your register). We also recommend the Oakland Marriott downtown as well as AirBnB.com. More recommendations in registration confirmation email.

What kind of transportation will I need to arrive at the event?

If you're traveling from out of town, we don't think you need a car unless / until you want to go farther afield. Not only is our event space just a couple blocks from BART (our train system), if you stay at the Marriott, it is within walking distance of the lake. If you stay at the Waterfront, the Free Broadway Shuttle goes from the hotel all the way up Broadway all day, from which you can then easily walk to the lake. If you drive, there's a parking lot next to the event space, and we're negotiating special rates.

Are animals permitted?

We're sorry we're not able to allow animals other than service animals.

TESTIMONIALS

What Attendees from Previous Events Had to Say

(Sadly we don't have room for them all!)

It was amazing to meet Colleen personally and be immersed in all she had to offer about compassion, strategies & compassion fatigue.

I feel more compassion as a whole. I was able to learn valuable things that I have already begun implementing in my life. The message Colleen delivers is simplistic, but beautiful, and amazing.

I was extremely impressed. I am vegan by choice, not originally for the animals, but for health reasons but what I learned, from Colleen's perspective, I am more engaged from the animals’ perspective.

I've never met or been surrounded by so many like minded, compassionate people.

My mind and heart are still so full. It's incredible what support and guidance can do. Most of all, it was incredible being surrounded by so much compassion.

Leaving the conference with real, actionable goals was more than I expected and so valuable to me.

Colleen's presentations/Q&A were what brought me in - and they all exceeded my expectations. She was brilliant, and I learned so much from her.

The content exceeded my expectations. Also, the connection with so many kindred spirits exceeded my expectations.

The entire weekend was just amazing!! I loved having the opportunity to meet Colleen, hear her speak, listen to a variety of other speakers, meet and connect with other like-minded people and explore the beautiful city of Oakland! I just hate that the weekend flew by so quickly!

You're preaching to the choir here — long-time vegan/advocate — and I find that conferences don't offer much new info these days. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I walked away with.

These kinds of events are dependent on the charisma and content of the speakers. I felt well engaged by the majority of speakers, which, for a conference, is quite an achievement.

“Colleen created an amazing event with dynamic, engaging speakers. I learned ways to advocate for animals & feel comfortable doing so. It was lovely to reconnect with friends from last year & make new friends this year.
